A broadly appealing Danish comedy-drama in the vein of Rain Man, this stars Sophie Gråbøl (she of the famous sweaters in the Nordic Noir The Killing) as Inger, who is neurodiverse and can be prone to anxiety attacks. She reluctantly comes on a Parisian coach trip with her weary but sympathetic sister Ellen and her gruff brother-in-law Vagn. After some friction with the other tourists, Rose begins to win them over with her directness and lack of self-pity. The film is set in the aftermath of Princess Diana’s tragic death, a detail that contextualises the narrative in both individual and collective trauma. This is ultimately not a tragic tale though, and you will leave the cinema moved and uplifted, particularly by Gråbøl’s expertly underplayed performance.
